Finnish artist broke down: “I feel most empty” – Expressen

ZURICH / STOCKHOLM. Sandra Eriksson kroknade completely in the final at 3000 meter steeplechase.

After the race, she was so disappointed that she broke down completely.

– There are not so many words, it seems most empty she says

There was talk of a Nordic battle between Finland Sandra Eriksson and Sweden’s Charlotta Fougberg the 3000 meter steeplechase.

And Eriksson took an early lead in the race.

But then something went wrong.

Medal candidate kroknade completely and fell further and further back in the field and ended up in ninth place.

– The body feels really quite okay, but there was nothing more. I do not know if it was the head or if it was the body, says Eriksson.

Way back in the ranks, she saw how Fougberg was overtaken by German Antje Möldner-Schmidt.

began to cry

that she could not be with fighting for a medal was hard on Eriksson.

– Of course it was hard, it felt pretty pointless to continue. With one lap to go, I saw that it was running, so it was difficult, she says.

The disappointment was hard on Finnish artist.

In the mixed zone afterwards, she could end up not keeping back tears and started crying.

– It was not my day today.

– There are not so many words, it seems most empty. The worst is probably yet to come.

Not surprised

She rallied, however, somewhat to talk about Fougberg.

Were you surprised that she did not take the gold

– No, or I do not know, many thought it would be a race between me and Lotta. But I understood that it would not be. There are many who do not run so much this summer. Can imagine Lotta also had it pretty tough with a lot of pressure. So I’m not really surprised.
